How I get my ideas?

Fast answer to how I get my ideas is; I don't have any idea! I've been thinking this a lot in last weeks, when so many people have asked it. I can name view things, what I do when I don't have ideas. I have so much ideas in my head, that I'm just trying to write those down, because I don't have time for them.

Still I find myself time to time with problem, what to do. Usually those situations are, when I have to do something specific. Something from certain theme or person. It doesn't fit with my normal thinking proses. Normally I start from the idea and later find the purpose of the work. Then I get a lot done. When I have limits with what I'm doing, I have to think more. In this situation my first tip is helpful. Because I've written down time my ideas so long, I can start from looking those. Maybe I thought about this in past, but I just can't remember it now. Or maybe there is something else, that will lead my thoughts to what I should do now.

When I'm making my miniature dresses, I often start from the fabric, ribbon or lace, that I really want to use. Often it's why I want to do whole dress. It's so soft, or the color and print is something special. From that I go to selecting other supplies. Do I need tulle, what kind of pearls and string I'm going to need and collect everything next to my work space. I usually have a idea, am i doing something really festive or casual, or some detail I want to do, but I just start sewing and trying to shape the fabric in my hands. It's why I can't really explain how I do those, it varies with every work! When I'm sewing actual copy of dress, the situation is completely different. Then it doesn't matter how I work, only how the final version will look like. I keep my eyes on current bridal fashion to know what new there is, but most often there is some small detail, that catches my eye. It can be shape of the dress, fabric, trail, or even smaller detail, that makes me wanting to do it. I take a picture from that detail or sketch it to remember it in future.

With some works, like drawing I use Google search to help me time to time. With these is really important to understand the difference between plagiarism and looking ideas and inspiration. How I do it? Good example is facial expressions. Those are difficult to draw for me. To be totally honest, most of them are happy accident. I can type in Google Image search 'suprised face cartoon' to see how to express that. One way to make sure that, you are giving for it your unique style is, don't keep looking that preference picture. Make observations, but draw it from your head! How mouth was curved, to what direction eyes where looking…

One thing how I work my ideas is talking about those. It makes me to organize my thoughts and other one can have great ideas. More in Twitter @FromMadeByMeri

Working with a giant project

I've been busy and it's easy to see from, how often I've been writing lately. Anyways in beginning I promised for myself, that keeping the blog isn't going to be something, that I let to stress myself. I'm using all my time and energy for the work, what I'm doing right now. I don't want to tell more about it now, but for this post's sake, I need to tell, that I'm working with Photoshop and using hundreds of hours for this.

The biggest challenge for me is, that I don't remember to take a breaks. Somehow drawing with computer, doesn't feel same way working, then sewing or painting. I easily forget to drink or eat. Suddenly I notice,  that I've been drawing four hours and haven't moved at all. In long run, this is really stupid and I'm trying to focus specifically to this. Currently I'm "watching" Netflix while working. More like I have it open and I'm listening and time to time looking what is happening. My idea f…

Giving second change for my markers and buying new ones

I've been really into Inktober. Even more then I waited to be. I waited to have more problems with keeping this daily schedule, but surprisingly, only one day was hard to get anything done. I've been focusing to drawing so much and haven't really felt like writing. I think it's partly because, I've just been drawing and not doing that much anything else.

I've used almost completely my original markers. I had my first Sharpies ever and they used to be enough for me. Just because I didn't used to draw with them. I basically used those just for writing. They are okay and good for practicing, but now I'm needing more and I'm waiting from mail, my new Winston&Newton's Promarkers. I read and watched Youtube videos about, what would be the best for me. Copics are known to be the best, but the price is just way too much. I trust to Winston&Newton as brand, based of their other products, like paints. Also some artists actually prefer them, over C…

Art and feelings - hospital art

If you are saying that art doesn't wake any kind of feelings in you, you need to stop at next time and actually give a second to look at it. Art can be powerful tool and mood effective. I'm talking now specially about art in hospitals and other public places. In this context, art can be anything from actual painting or photography, to color of walls or pattern of ceiling. I'm always focused the patterns of air conditioner's grids. It sounds so small detail, but every hospital room has it and after laying somewhere hours, you'll start to notice details on roof.

I've got my dear share of hospital time. Time in waiting rooms, doctors offices, examination rooms, wards... There is usually one common thing. Something on walls, that is meant to make place to look nicer, warmer, more comfortable... Sometimes even more home like. It can be anything from doctor's kid's or kid patients drawings to abstract professional photographer's ink test like photos. Eith…
