Stamp story

Once in the  flea market, I wound a packet of used stamps. New and old, from home and over seas. I got idea to add those so my cards. I collect the once I wanted and sold out later the rest. They were nice add to vintage and travel cards and for envelopes that weren't going to be send, just something extra for the card.

Later I got idea to you those with bigger scale. There was so pretty and unique stamps and I didn't want let them just be in box in my cabinet.  I started to make a painting. Not like my usual painting, even I painted the canvas. I start from idea from collecting one per every country. It was really big canvas and I had more then one nice stamp, I start to add more to it. I Still wanted to get more countries to it. I asked a stamp from friends who travelled to country, I didn't have in my collection, I looked flea markets, but the best way was to buy from online. I believe, most of them were former collectors selling their collection or others who just got those from to themselves somehow. And of course the current collectors, who had extra. I got random packets and took from myself everyone I liked and sold out the rest. It took many test runs with different clues and the stamp I didn't liked. I don't remember what clue was the best, but it was some kind of water based kids clue. It was the most likely fit. I had to add clue first to canvas, put the stamp and then apply clue over it to make it stay. So it had to be clear. I tested varnish, lacquer… But the kids clue was the best!

This is been really long journey. It included the odd thing with canvas. The frame start to spend in time. One carpenter thought it was made from too fresh wood, but who knows. It's only time that something like that has happened for me. I solved it with taking the canvas fabric off and using other frame for it. A little bit smaller then original, so I was able to attach it with upholstery stapler. Then next part of the struggle was that I moved and things and look changed in my apartment. I wasn't happy anymore with the base color. I end up to paint the canvas, even it had the stamps on. Big areas were easy, but closer to stamps was really hard to get without ruining them. It's still on work and I'm adding new stamps year after year. I'm not going to fill it completely, but there is still room for the new ones. @FromMadeByMeri

Working with a giant project

I've been busy and it's easy to see from, how often I've been writing lately. Anyways in beginning I promised for myself, that keeping the blog isn't going to be something, that I let to stress myself. I'm using all my time and energy for the work, what I'm doing right now. I don't want to tell more about it now, but for this post's sake, I need to tell, that I'm working with Photoshop and using hundreds of hours for this.

The biggest challenge for me is, that I don't remember to take a breaks. Somehow drawing with computer, doesn't feel same way working, then sewing or painting. I easily forget to drink or eat. Suddenly I notice,  that I've been drawing four hours and haven't moved at all. In long run, this is really stupid and I'm trying to focus specifically to this. Currently I'm "watching" Netflix while working. More like I have it open and I'm listening and time to time looking what is happening. My idea f…

Giving second change for my markers and buying new ones

I've been really into Inktober. Even more then I waited to be. I waited to have more problems with keeping this daily schedule, but surprisingly, only one day was hard to get anything done. I've been focusing to drawing so much and haven't really felt like writing. I think it's partly because, I've just been drawing and not doing that much anything else.

I've used almost completely my original markers. I had my first Sharpies ever and they used to be enough for me. Just because I didn't used to draw with them. I basically used those just for writing. They are okay and good for practicing, but now I'm needing more and I'm waiting from mail, my new Winston&Newton's Promarkers. I read and watched Youtube videos about, what would be the best for me. Copics are known to be the best, but the price is just way too much. I trust to Winston&Newton as brand, based of their other products, like paints. Also some artists actually prefer them, over C…

Art and feelings - hospital art

If you are saying that art doesn't wake any kind of feelings in you, you need to stop at next time and actually give a second to look at it. Art can be powerful tool and mood effective. I'm talking now specially about art in hospitals and other public places. In this context, art can be anything from actual painting or photography, to color of walls or pattern of ceiling. I'm always focused the patterns of air conditioner's grids. It sounds so small detail, but every hospital room has it and after laying somewhere hours, you'll start to notice details on roof.

I've got my dear share of hospital time. Time in waiting rooms, doctors offices, examination rooms, wards... There is usually one common thing. Something on walls, that is meant to make place to look nicer, warmer, more comfortable... Sometimes even more home like. It can be anything from doctor's kid's or kid patients drawings to abstract professional photographer's ink test like photos. Eith…
